SIXTEEN schools in Iloilo City will see action in the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Meet, which kicks off at the Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI), covered gym on Sept. 17.

The games include basketball, volleyball, athletics, swimming, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, and football.

Fr. Joseph Haw, S.J., Ateneo de Iloilo president and ISSA 2018 chairman, said the opening is supposed to begin today, but it was moved to Monday at the same venue because of typhoon “Ompong.”

John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) will defend its tertiary basketball crown against University of San Agustin (USA), Western Institute and Technology (WIT), and Iloilo Doctor’s College (IDC).

In the elementary division, Ateneo de Iloilo hopes to retain the crown in basketball.

Hua Siong College of Iloilo (HSCI) is the reigning secondary boys’ basketball champion.

Meanwhile, Central Philippine University (CPU), the defending champions in secondary boys’, tertiary men’s, and women’s volleyball withdrew from the annual tournament.

St. Joseph School and AdI will face tough tests in elementary girls’ volleyball and secondary girls’ volleyball, respectively.

Despite the cancellation of the opening ceremony, basketball and volleyball games will continue depending on the weather.

General Sports Manager Richard Guanzon will manage the 2018 ISSA.

Other competing teams are St. Robert’s International School, Sta. Clarita International School, PAREF-Westbridge School, Santa Isabel College Iloilo, Sun Yat Send High School, Centerphil Montessori Learning Center, Bethany Life Christian Academy, and Iloilo Scholastic Academy.
