5 join gubernatorial race in Iloilo

Not only Third District Rep. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. and Fourth District Rep. Ferjenel “Ferj” Biron are vying for the gubernatorial seat in the province of Iloilo.
Based on data from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Provincial Office, five gubernatorial aspirants, as of Oct.16, filed their certificates of candidacy COCs.
Biron filed his COC on Oct. 11. He is running under the Nacionalista Party.
On the same day, Jonry Gargarita of Barangay Lay-ahan, Pototan filed his COC for governor. The 31-year-old water refilling station worker is an independent candidate.
Defensor submitted his COC yesterday, Oct. 16. He is running under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban).
Vicente Antaya of Pototan and Esperidion Javier of Balasan also filed their COCs on the fourth day.
Antaya is independent while Javier is running under “Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS).”
The last day of the filing of COCs for the May 2019 elections is today, Oct. 17.
