Direct flights between Manila and Sicogon Island in Carles town, Iloilo province will soon start.
AirSWIFT Transport, Inc., an Ayala-owned regional boutique airline company, held a test flight of its 50-seater Turbo Prop plane at a newly-built airport on the 1,100-hectare island on Monday, Aug. 20.
Provincial Administrator Raul Banias said the flights from Manila to Sicogon, and vice versa would operate every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday with a one-way rate of about P4,000.
The thrice-a-week flights, according Banias, would boost the tourism industry in northern Iloilo.
AirSWIFT currently operates flights between El Nido and Cebu, Manila, Caticlan, and Clark. It has also direct flights to and from Batanes, Puerto Princesa, Davao City, and Tagbilaran, Bohol.
The Sicogon Airport is part of the P10-billion Sicogon Island Tourism Estate project of Ayala Land, Inc (ALI) and Sicogon Development Corp. (SIDECO).
Aside from the airport, a jetty port and an international hotel will also open on the island before the end of the year, Banias revealed.
