IT MAY be one tough job but the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 said it is winning the fight against illegal drugs.

Since Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, Western Visayas police chief, assumed post on June 2018, the PRO-6 accelerated anti-illegal drug operations in the region.

“I am proud to inform you that in the past five months, we have delivered overwhelming results in our campaign against illegal drugs,” Bulalacao told the participants in the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO)’s celebration of the 1st National Children’s Month.

Pinarami pa natin ang mga operasyon laban sa pagtitinda at paggamit ng ilegal na droga. At ‘di tayo nabigo,” he said.

Since Bulalacao assumed as PRO-6 chief, 815 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted and 1,154 drug personalities were arrested.

PRO-6 also confiscated 8,922 grams of shabu and 6,419 grams of marijuana with a combined value of P96 million.

The statistics is almost 600 percent higher compared to what PRO-6 had accomplished last year.

Bulalacao said PRO-6 has conducted 1,348 successful anti-drug operations since the PNP resumed its anti-drug drive from Dec. 5, 2017 to Nov. 12, 2018.

The confiscated illegal drugs were valued at P149.2 million, more or less.

The operations also resulted in the arrest of 1,935 drug personalities while 2,823 cases were filed in Court.

Bulalacao attributed the breakthrough not only to police personnel but also to the community’s support.

He said the accomplishment in the drug war will have an impact on other anti-criminality campaigns in the region.

Again, the region’s top cop said that the war on illegal drugs is everybody’s concern.

Given that everyone must lift a finger in the drug war, “it is only right that we have to engage even the children in the war on illegal drugs. After all, drug menace knows no relatives,” Bulalacao told the attendees, many of whom are grade school pupils.

He said illegal drugs affects everyone.

“In fact, it is disheartening that many innocent children turned into drug dependents. Marami ang kaso ng panggagahasa at iba pang klase ng abuso ng mga kabataan ang naitala na ang salarin ay lulong sa ilegal na droga,” Bulalacao said.

Thus, it is truly fitting that children should be involved to know their thoughts and perspectives in the government’s fights against illegal drugs, he said.
