A group of Chinese engineers presented to Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III its plans for the construction of the proposed bridge connecting the islands of Panay, Guimaras, and Negros.
Espinosa said the group came from a company that is currently undertaking two bridge projects in Manila.
The company also built the world’s longest sea bridge connecting Hong Kong, Macau and mainland China, he added.
“May 10 ka engineers nagkadto sa aton opisina last month and they presented their plans. Nagapakita ini nga indi lang asta sa istorya,” the mayor told reporters.
Espinosa said the company will conduct a feasibility study for the proposed Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge.
“Maconduct anay sila feasibility study pero wala pa concrete date kon san maumpisa. I’m hoping nga indi na magdugay.”
Espinosa said the firm wanted to construct the bridge in Loboc, Lapuz district but because of the International Port and the power plant in the area, it chose the town of Leganes.
According to Espinosa, the project will not entail any funding from the government.
“Wala na gastuhon ang government. It will be a grant in aid of project,” he said.
The Panay-Guimaras-Negros bridge is one of the priority infrastructure projects under the “Build, Build, Build” Program of the Duterte administration.
Phase I of the project is the Iloilo-Guimaras bridge while Phase II is the Guimaras-Negros bridge.
