Iloilo City Administrator Hernando Galvez.

ILOILO City Administrator Hernando Galvez assured that his office would be communicating with the Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO) to evaluate if the truck ban ordinance is being implemented.

Ginapa-scale namon ang truck ban kay upon review sang truck ban damo kulang. Gina-review namon subong and I will be submitting a report to the mayor but assured na I will be communicating with TMTRO,” said Galvez.

He also stressed the need to post signage to inform the public of the truck ban ordinance.

Wala kita sang signage parte sa truck ban. We need to have proper signage para ma-inform ang operators nga amo ni oras hindi sila pwede,” he noted.

According to Galvez, the lack of information creates a domino effect on traffic.

When asked about the rift between his office and the PSTMO, Galvez said that they have been very open in cooperating with the PSTMO.

Naga-pa solicit kita sang ila advice and we’ve been very open although kita ya ang tawo kung ano hambal nila aksyonan naton,” he added.

Earlier, Mayor Jose Espinosa III assured the public that the city government remains united despite exchanges between Galvez and PSTMO head Jeck Conlu on traffic rules and regulation.

Galvez cited the lax implementation of traffic laws which cause congestions on the streets.

Conlu, who has jurisdiction over the TMTRO, disagreed with Galvez’ observation saying that their office had apprehended hundreds of truck ban violators.

As of as of July 2018, the statistics on Traffic Violation of Iloilo City indicated that PSTMO has apprehended 147 truck ban violators.

Under the truck ban ordinance, “mini-lorries shall be allowed to traverse any street in the City of Iloilo at any time of the day for the purpose of delivering diesel fuel only to commercial establishments ordering the same.”

To ensure the effective implementation, the Iloilo City Government will provide “Truck Ban Stickers” which shall be posted on the trucks’ windshields.

Without the “Truck Ban Stickers,” no truck shall be allowed to pass through, park, to load and unload on streets covered by the ordinance.
