THE Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) received one of the two drones donated to the city government by a private company.
According to CDRRMO head Donna Magno, the drone will be useful in targeting areas that are prone to storm surge and flooding.
“Like for example sa coastal ang drone will be useful para lantawon kung ano kalapad angareas lapit sa seashore during the threat or occurrence sang storm surge. After sang flooding makita man naton ang aerial view sang mga areas nga affected” said Magno.
Franco Anthony Agudo of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) said that the drone would aid in planning and projects in the city.
“Makabulig gid ang drone especially sa vulnerable areas like the coastal. Without the drone it will take us days to do ocular inspection especially now that we are mapping deep well and salt water intrusion,” he added.
Magno assured that their office would work closely with the City Planning Office in using the drone.
Based on data from the Iloilo City Planning and Development office, Iloilo City is prone to six hazards namely flooding, storm surge, earthquake, water scarcity, fire, and soil liquefaction with 25 coastal barangays prone to storm surge.
In addition, 38 barangays in the city also have high to very high flood susceptibility according to Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB).
SM Savemore donated two drones to the city government.
Aside from the CDRRMO, the Public Information Office (PIO) will use one of the drones.
