MAYOR Jose Espinosa III ordered the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) to raise the Blue Alert status in Iloilo City as Typhoon Ompong (international name Mangkhut) makes landfall Wednesday afternoon.
In a memorandum issued on Sept 12, 2018, Espinosa, who also chairs the CDRRMC, ordered the activation of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Operations Center (OpCen).
The Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Committees (BDRRMC) was also tasked “to conduct disaster preparedness measures to ensure the safety of citizens.”
The OpCens were advised to coordinate closely with the City DRRM OpCen for weather updates and conditions while the BDRRMS are instructed to submit situational report to the CDRRM Opcen.
On Sept 11, a pre-disaster risk assessment (PDRA) was conducted by the CDRRMC in preparation for the entry of the typhoon Wednesday evening.
Scattered light to moderate rains and thunderstorms will be experienced in Western Visayas as Ompong passes through the country.
During the PDRA, Engr. Ronaldo Naragdao, officer-in-charge of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said Region VI can expect cloudy skies with light to moderate and occasional heavy rainshowers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday.
Regional DRRMC (RDRRMC-6) regional director Jose Roberto Nuñez also placed the entire region under Blue Alert status starting Sept 11.
