ILOILO City – A Danish man slashed his stomach inside an apartment he and a live-in partner were renting in Barangay Mali-ao, Pavia, Iloilo on Saturday, police said.
Emergency responders rushed Arne Erhard Johanten to the Iloilo Mission Hospital in Jaro district, but not before barging into the room where the 70-year-old foreigner locked himself up at around 2:03 p.m.
From what the police have so far gathered, his attempt at his life was brought about by his frustration over a cancelled trip.
Investigators at the Pavia police station were still delving deeper.
“Ang motive ginapa-imbestigaran pa naton,” said Chief Inspector Fernand Limbungan, municipal police chief. “Daw na-frustrate ang Danish national kay may travel ni sila nga na-cancel.”
Police said the foreigner used a kitchen knife about 12 inches long from handle to tip.
Asked to describe the severity of the wound, Limbungan said it was like the foreigner was disemboweled.
The Danish man had a fight with live-in partner Vangielyn Calumag, 40.
“May commotion sila nga duha until such time nga nagsulod sia (foreigner) sa kwarto kag nanira nga indi na mabuksan, kag didto nga ginpilas niya ang iya kaugalingon,” Limbungan said.
Calumag sought help. Local police officers, firefighters and the emergency response team of the local government responded.
The responders forcibly entered the room where they found the bloodied Danish man.
As of this writing the foreigner remained confined in the hospital.
