THE municipality of Janiuay, Iloilo posted a staggering 875 percent increase in dengue cases from January to October 2018 against the same period last year.
Dr. Maria Socorro Colmenares-Quiñon of the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) said Janiuay already has 154 confirmed dengue cases with two deaths. Last year, the municipality only recorded 16 cases.
Quiñon said one barangay had a clustering of cases, which means that three or more cases were detected in four consecutive weeks.
“Sa Janiuay daw wala guid untat si (Barangay) Jibolo. Didto man na may napatay. Ang duwa ka kaso naton sa Janiuay, may isa na da nga taga Jibolo,” Quiñon said.
PHO data showed that Jibolo already has five dengue cases since January.
Meanwhile, Dumangas has the second highest number of cases with 134 and Ajuy with 93 cases including two deaths.
Dumangas also has the most number of barangays with clustering of dengue cases.
“Kadamo guid nga mga kabarangayan sa Dumangas. So, please be aware of that nga may ara kita clustering of cases sa Cayos, Ermita, Dacutan, Tabucan, Bacay, Paloc Sool, kagLacturan,” she reported.
Barangays Pili in Ajuy, Purog in Duenas, Turog-Turog in Oton, Poblacion in San Rafael, and Jalaud Norte in Zarraga are also on the PHO’s list of barangays with clustering of dengue cases.
Quiñon advised the public to be watchful of the symptoms of dengue, whether or not they reside in the mentioned municipalities and barangays.
“Be cautious lang sa mga kabarangayan nga ini. Pero sa mga wala ko na-mention nga barangay, kag wala ko na mention nga kabanwahanan, may ara guihapon nga cases kay wala guid nga banwa subong nga wala sing kaso sang Dengue,” she said.
The municipalities of Tubungan, Igbaras, and Banate had the least number of dengue cases this year.
Tubungan only has one case this year, down from 10 in 2017, Igbaras with four cases while Banate has seven.
