The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) has begun its preparations to ensure the safety of travelers during the observance of this year’s “Undas” or All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2).
Wenceslao M. Leaño, Jr., DPWH-6 regional director, said he has already instructed all district engineers to make sure that national roads are “free from obstructions, passable and well-maintained.”
“In areas where road constructions or repairs are undertaken, necessary warning devices should be installed and personnel should be deployed to man the traffic,” he added.
The DPWH-6 is set to reactivate its “Lakbay-Alalay” from October 30 to Nov. 2.
Leaño said motorist assistance centers would be installed along national roads near cemeteries.
The DPWH will be coordinating with other government agencies like the Philippine National Police (PNP), Land Transportation Office (LTO), Department of Health (DOH), and Disaster Emergency Responders for the smooth conduct of the operation.
Engineer Oliver E. Zamora, DPWH-6 Maintenance Division chief, said each motorist assistance center would “provide immediate assistance such as repair of troubled vehicles, giving of directions especially to tourists, and applying first aid in emergency cases.”
District engineers were also ordered to deploy maintenance crew to monitor the condition of roads, particularly those prone to slips and landslides.
