DPWH constructs P159M worth of farm-to-market roads in central Iloilo

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has implemented 20 farm-to-market road projects in various towns in the central part of Iloilo province.


Eighteen of these projects, which amounted to P159 million, were already completed, said Sanny Boy O. Oropel, head of the Iloilo Second District Engineering Office.


According to him, the construction of the roads, funded under FY 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA), is part of the of the convergence program between the DPWH and the Department of Agriculture (DA).


One of these significant projects is the 1.94-kilometer farm-to-market road, which stretches from Brgy. Suba to Brgy. Linao in Barotac Nuevo. It amounted to P25 million.


The district office also completed the construction of the P20-million road from Brgy. Lay-ahan to Brgy. Sinuagan in Pototan, which involves concreting of 2.20-kilometer road, 5 meters wide including cross drain with slope protection.


In addition, the 1.01-kilometer farm-to-market road in Brgy. Banugan in Dueñas,  and the 1.0-kilometer road from Brgy. Baje San Julian to Brgy. Owak in Calinog were completely paved. Each project amounted to P10 million.


Oropel said the farm-to-market roads woul “help increase the income of the farmers in the influenced area by decreasing post-harvest losses as well as promote agricultural enterprise in the area, improving the standard of living of the locales and enhancing the socio-economic condition of these communities.”


“The projects will also provide easy access to basic services and commodities related to agriculture, reduce travel time and transport cost of commodities, and these improved roads will attract more investors in the area,” he added.
