A total of 17 rainwater collectors will be installed in different establishments in Iloilo in a bid to address water shortage, the Department of Public Work and Highways (DPWH) said.
DPWH Region 6 Director Wenceslao Leaño said a total of P3.4 million was allocated for the construction of 17 rainwater collector systems in various offices and schools.
“The rainwater collector system connected to the roofs will enable the storage of rainwater for domestic use especially in populated areas which consume a higher volume of water every day,” said Leaño.
Ten schools in Iloilo City and its neighboring towns of Leganes and New Lucena will receive one rainwater collector each while Iloilo Central Elementary School will receive two rainwater collectors.
Further, to complete the project, three rainwater collectors will be constructed at the DPWH Regional Office while one each will be intaslled in Barangay Taft North and Jaro Big Market in the District of Jaro, and Barangay San Juan in Molo District.
Each rainwater collector, according to Leano, costs P200,000 and is capable of storing 4,000 liters of rainwater.
Installation of the system in establishments is part of the department’s Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, according to the regional director.
