Mayor Jose Espinosa III has allowed vendors to occupy sidewalks in Iloilo City until the end of this month.
In a media interview, Espinosa said the move aims to help small-time vendors get high profits this holiday season.
“We are expecting nga mga 300 vendors naton diri ang makabenefit sini,” he added.
According to the mayor, the vendors are permitted to sell on sidewalks in the city’s six districts.
But Espinosa clarified that only those who sell clothes, toys, fruits and other dry goods are allowed.
Firecrackers and wet goods are prohibited, he said.
The mayor urged the vendors to sell their goods at reasonable prices and to properly dispose their garbage.
The city government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) is tasked to check if the vendors are complying.
“Dapat may permits sila gihapon from the city goverment kag maprovide gihapon sila gap, at least one meter, para makaagi ang aton pedestrians,” said PSTMO head Jeck Conlu.
