A FLOWER vendor for 15 years, Grace Alazarin complained of low sales after the Iloilo City government moved their stalls from the vicinity of Jaro Cathedral to Jaro Plaza.
“Sang ginbutang kami diri sa sulod tam-an ka pigado gid ang benta. Gapangabay kami kay mayor ibalik tani kami kay ka pigado subong. Tani maluoy man siya sa amon,” said Alazarin
She added that she can hardly sell her products and that her income for two days is only P400.
“Sang didto pa sa una namon nga pwesto sa may likod sang simbahan lab-ot linibo amon income and dasig maubos ang amon baligya sa isa lang ka adlaw,” she stated.
The city government transferred the flower vendors in Jaro Plaza because of traffic jams in narrow road behind the cathedral.
“Last year, tungod sa karsada sila medyo magutok ang dalan and nagcause ini siya sang congestion sa likod sang aton Jaro Cathedral kag sang aton nga Jaro Big Market,” said Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu.
Mayor Jose Espinosa III said that this is the first time that the vendors are designated in a specific area to ensure the orderly flow of the public.
“Gintipon naton sila sa sulod sang Plaza Jaro. Kung gusto magbakal sang bulak sulod ka didto kag kun mag-pili ka kay damo pili-an,” said Espinosa.
The mayor said the PSTMO and City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) monitored and assured the orderly and clean placement of the vendors.
