Gerochi open to vice mayoral bid

ILOILO City Councilor and lawyer RLeoni Gerochi said he welcomes the idea of running for vice mayor in the 2019 elections if someone invites him as running mate.

“Yes I am open. Kun may mag-invite sa aton, binagbinagon ta eh. Pero kun siling nga ako ya manigal-ot nga magsulod gid saamo na nga posisyon, indi ko ya,” Gerochi said.

But Gerochi said neither City Mayor Jose “Joe” Espinosa III nor Rep. Jerry Treñas, who are both are vying for the mayoral post next year, has offered him the post.

He also denied that he is part of Espinosa’s “secret” lineup and was shocked upon learning his name floating in the media as Espinosa’s running mate.

“I am not part of Mayor Joe’s political inner circle,” Gerochi added.

But he assured that the incumbent mayor has his backing in the 2019 elections, with or without any position offered to him.

“I will campaign for him to prove that he is a good mayor,” he said.

Gerochi said he also considers his previous statement to incumbent Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, encouraging the latter to run as Espinosa’s running mate.

But Ganzon already declared that he is running under Treñas’ slate.

The councilor also said that when his term expires in 2019, he plans to go back to the legal practice.

“Right now ang focus ko is magbalik sa opisina. Because it’s been a while since nakapanabang ako. And I feel nga daw gatuktukon na ulo ko,” he said.
