Iloilo River Esplanade is Haligi ng Dangal winner

The Iloilo River Esplanade, designed by renowned architect Paulo Alcazaren, is one of this year’s Haligi ng Dangal awardees.
The linear park in Mandurriao district, Iloilo City won in the Landscape Architecture category.
Haligi ng Dangal is “a biennial award conferred by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through the National Committee on Architecture and the Allied Arts upon completed/executed works in Architecture and Allied Arts Professions, namely Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Environmental Planning.”
The city government received a commemorative plaque from the NCAA during the awarding ceremony held in Manila on Saturday, Nov. 24.
The plaque will be installed at the Iloilo River Esplanade.
Haligi ng Dangal “acknowledges exemplary works and encourages the sustenance of the Filipino spirit, the development and improvement of the Filipino-built environment and enhancement of public awareness of the role of design and designers, particularly that of architecture and its allied profession, in the social, economic and environment development of the Philippines.”
The first phase of the Iloilo River Esplanade, which is 1.2 kilometers long, opened in 2012. It amounted to P58.7 million.
The esplanade stretches from Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue to Carpenter’s Bridge.
The construction of phases 3 to 9 are ongoing.
