Ilongga biker tops Ironman 70.3

ALEXANDRA Ganzon of Iloilo emerged on top of the Women’s Asian Elite category of the 2018 Regent Aguila Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on Aug. 5, 2018.
The Iloilo City native recovered from a sluggish start to finish the event in blistering five hours, four minutes, and 52 seconds.
Ganzon, a former Iloilo Milo Marathon champion, said she is happy to top the tough competition and even set a personal record this year.
Ganzon finished in the top three when Iloilo hosted the Milo Marathon Qualifying Leg.
Meanwhile, Banjo Norte of Cebu ruled the men’s Asian Elite category after finishing the swim-bike-run event in 4 hours, 24 minutes, and 34 seconds.
Mauricio Mendez of Mexico captured the Asia-Pacific men’s title after clocking in 3:46.45. He bested records of Bermuda’s Tyler Butterfield (3:47.39), Braden Currie (3:48.12) and multi-titled Australians Tim Reed (3:52.51) and Craig Alexander (3:54.09).
Radka Kahlefeldt of Czech Republic dominated the women’s side with 4:12.13. She outplayed Swiss Caroline Steffen, who had 4:21.50, and last year’s champion Mel Hauschildt (4:22.50).
