Ilonggo jins nab taekwondo crown

TAEKWONDO jins from the Mark V. Pinggol (MVP) Iloilo ruled the 2018 Regional Age – Group Taekwondo Championship held at Justice Ramon Britanico Hall in Miagao, Iloilo on Sept. 15.
The wards of Denmark Pinggol captured the crown after collecting 10 gold and 10 silver medals in the regional competition.
St. Robert’s International Academy (SRIA) Panda Rockets Jhed Morata and Anica Feranco, who both won gold medals, led the team.
Ateneo de Iloilo (AdI) stalwarts Von Escabilla and Neljane Belgira also finished with gold medals against more than 200 competing jins in the region.
Other gold medalists are Carl Mongao, Khyla Sernal (Baluarte ES), Timothy West, Titus West, Sheine Nicole de Asis (Assumption Iloilo), and Dariel Andrei Talamor. Silver finishers were Marielle Lagamo (AdI), Stephen Laz (PAREF-Westbridge), Mark Mongao, Rafael Gvirz, Myles Ita-as, Jose lubis III – Silver (PAREF-Westbridge), Nicole Latade, (Iloilo City NHS), Katrina Mamaril, (SRIA), Angela Bermejo, (SRIA), and Gabriel Dominic Capadosa.
According to Pinggol, the team’s performance showed that all their daily training and practice resulted in impressive victories.
“As the head coach of MVP Taekwondo Gym, I’m very happy with the performance of our jins, especially for our novice jins as they’re giving their best during their first regional exposure. We offer this victory to God and to their ever-supportive parents,” he added.
Christer John Gersanib, Melcris Villarin, and Diego Garcia also coached the team.
The team is now eager for the much-anticipated 2018 Inter-school Taekwondo Championship early next month at Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Meanwhile, Jalandoni National High School Taekwondo jins also dominated the competition.
Trained by head coach Medy Alcarde, the team took home six gold and three silver medals.
The team was led by gold medalists Joe Mark Tabutol, Nikko John Paredes, Vanessa Jean Bungalso, Aiza B. Trinidad, Ricky Boy Mendoza, and, Leana Ancelly Deciembre.
Silver medals went to Jay Mark Tabutol, Althea Clarrise Linaogo, and Francine Delayre.
