TWO Ilonggo wushu fighters are hoping to see action in the 2018 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games before they will retire from the sports they love.
More than competing in the international arena, Arnel Mandal and Francisco Solis also want to win gold medals in the tournament.
Mandal, 23, a native of Iloilo City, told Radyo Pilipinas 2 that he has yet to win a medal in the SEA Games.
“I already won gold medals in other tournaments, so I hope to do the same in the next SEA Games,” he added.
Mandal recently notched a gold medal finish in the 52 kg category of the 9th Wushu-Sanda World Cup on Oct. 28 in Hangzhou, China.
Meanwhile, Solis, also a pride of Iloilo City, said he will “go all-out for a SEA Games gold medal” before he retires from the sport.
“I am not getting any younger, so I am really aspiring for a SEA Games gold before giving way to younger fighters,” he added.
The 28-year-old athlete also captured a bronze medal in the 2014 and 2018 Asian Games after ruling the 56 kg category.
The two Ilonggo fighters failed to participate in previous SEA Games editions because the organizers removed their game divisions.
