ILOILO City Mayor Jose Espinosa III assured the public that the city government remains united despite exchanges between department heads.
“It is part of being in government. We are big happy family, I don’t promote animosity,” said Espinosa.
Recently, City Administrator Hernando Galvez criticized the delayed implementation of the truck ban ordinance by the Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO).
But Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu, who has jurisdiction over the TMTRO, disagreed with Galvez’ observation saying that blaming the department heads will not help solve the problem.
Espinosa said he already called for the attention of the two City Hall executives, stressing that it should not be a huge concern.
“It is natural. I already talked to them. I always tell my employees to serve our people well,” he added.
The mayor also said that such issues should not bother the public, especially that the city was hailed as the Most Improved City in the country based on the Annual Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI).
More than 1,500 Local Government Units participated in the annual ranking and were evaluated based on the pillars of government efficiency, economic dynamism, and resiliency.
“We pray and work together. Kinahanglan may salig ka sa tawo and you delegate responsibilities. You appreciate and motivate them,” Espinosa said.
Aside from the CMCI, Iloilo was recently declared a finalist in four national awards.
Last August, the validation team for the National Literacy Awards, Seal of Good Local Governance, Galing Pook arrived in the city.
Moreover, the Iloilo River project initiative is also a finalist to the Galing Pook Awards 2018.
This coming September 23-24, 2018, the validators for the Most Child-friendly city for highly urbanized city is expected to arrive in Iloilo.
