Councilor Joshua Alim is proposing to stage a festival that intends to put the spotlight on Iloilo City’s La Paz Batchoy and Pancit Molo.
The soups are the most sought-after traditional Ilonggo specialties originated in the districts of La paz and Molo.
Alim said the “La Paz Batchoy and Pancit Molo Festival” would give locals and tourists a genuine Ilonggo gastronomic and cultural experience.
“Sa iban nga lugar may ara sila festivals promoting their dishes. Diri sa Iloilo dapat may ara man kita nga aton,” he told reporters.
The city councilor is eyeing to hold the festival every month of May.
“Kay tag-ululan ang Mayo. Nami maghigup sang sabaw,” Alim said.
The proposal was referred to the Committee on Tourism, Culture and Historical Affairs chaired by Councilor Candice Magdalene Tupas.
It is expected to be tackled during the regular session of the City Council on Sept 18, 2018.
Alim is also aiming to get the longest ang biggest batchoy serving award from the Guinness World Records.
Batchoy is a noodle soup served with pork meat, crushed chicharon, beef loin, and toasted garlic, among others.
Pancit Molo, on the other hand, is a dumpling soup with pork or chicken filling wrapped in wonton wrapper.
