Alfredo Benitez, Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, and Provincial Board Member Manman Ko announce on Sept 23, 2018 the merger of Love Negros and United Negros Alliance and Lacson’s gubernatorial bid in the May 2019 elections.

BACOLOD City – Third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez and Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson announced on Sept 23, 2018 that Love Negros (LN) Team is merging with the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) for the 2019 elections.

They also announced in a press conference here that Lacson would be the common gubernatorial candidate of the two parties.

Lacson said another announcement wouldbe made with UNegA before the filing of the candidacy of the official tandem.

He said whoever will be fielded by the UNegA to team up with him as vice-governor will be accepted.

Earlier, the name of former fourth district congressman Jeffrey Ferrer has surfaced as a possible candidate of UNegA in the merger.

“We would like to announce that we are officially accepting the merger with the United Negros Alliance and that Vice Governor Lacson will be the official candidate for governor,” Benitez said.

Lacson said that as of the moment, the merger is for the governor and vice governor post pending the final meeting and agreement with UNegA on other positions such as the provincial board members, congressional representatives, mayors and vice mayors.

Lacson stressed that the turning point is when Benitez announced that he will give way to him in the gubernatorial race.

Benitez assured he would be around to help Lacson in the coming election.

He added that the merger is meant to take out politics in developing Negros, adding that politics has been a hindrance to the progress of the province.

Lacson said that they have eight re-electionist mayors in the 2019 polls – Neil Lizares for Talisay City, Mark Golez of Silay City, Marvin Malacon of EB Magalona, Nadie Arceo of Hinigaran, Enrique Miravalles of Valladolid, John Rey Tabujara of Cauayan, Jerry Rojas of Murcia,  and Frederick Palanca of Victorias City.

For congressman in the 1st District, LN will field Gerardo Vallmayor; Dr. Francisco Benitez for the third district; Himamaylan Mayor Agustin Bascon for the fifth district; and former vice governor Genaro “Lim-ao” Alvarez for the sixth district.
