“Tito Mayor Jose III” is the mascot of Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
Espinosa said the mascot stands six feet and two inches and also wears his signature blue-colored shirt.
In an interview on Wednesday, Espinosa said the mascot is a component of his administration’s “Utos ni Presidente, Utos ni Mayor: Just Say No to Drugs” program.
It will also be going to daycare centers.
“We want to start them young. It will have a big contribution until they grow up because we will start from their formative years,” he said.
He said using the mascot would make it easier to connect and get the attention of children.
The mascot was first introduced to the public last August 23 during the Senior Citizen’s Day as part of the Charter Day activities in Iloilo City. It also graces various events of the city government.
“It’s my idea,” said the city mayor, adding he was shown at least five or six models until he finally approved the design.
He added the expenses for the mascot came from his own private funds as his personal commitment in his campaign against illegal drugs.
At present, he said, they are still in the process of creating a team to spearhead the anti-drug campaign starting first with secondary schools. During the visit, there will be lectures on the ill-effects of drugs.
They will be visiting 65 elementary & 16 secondary public schools in the city.
“We will try to also coordinate with our private schools,” Espinosa said.
