MORE Nacionalista Party (NP) candidates filed their certificate of candidacies (COCs) for the May 2019 polls with the Provincial Commission on Elections (Comelec) Office on the third day of filing on Oct 15, 2018.
NP-Iloilo’s standard-bearer and gubernatorial candidate is fourth district Rep. Ferjenel Biron. Biron’s son, provincial board member Bryant Paul, filed his candidacy for mayor Barotac Nuevo.
He seeks to replace his brother Braeden John who is running for their father’s post.
Byrant Paul’s running-mate is his grandfather, Hernan Biron Sr. Meanwhile, lawyer Frank Defensor Pecina of Mina, Iloilo is running for board member in the third district of the province of Iloilo.
Although a novice in politics, Pecina encountered no trouble in filing his COC. He is optimistic on his candidacy saying he wants to serve Ilonggos on a wider scale.
He said he wants to help the senior citizens, especially the indigents.
“Being a senior myself, iadvance ko gid na ‘ya nga mga advocacies para sa mga seniors guid,” Pecina said.
He aims to lessen the inconvenience of senior citizens in availing discounts when they purchase medicines and products.
Former Mayor Rolly Distura of Dumangas, Iloilo also filed his COC for board member of the fourth district. He said he aims to replicate the programs he realized during his term in Dumangas town to the province of Iloilo.
One of the programs is TAMPAD or the Transportation and Mobility for Persons with Disability and Senior Citizens Program granted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“Kung ang pigado nga mga senior citizens, persons with disability nga wala kwarta, natagaan sila sang cheap – may monetary value ini. I-bayluhan nila, i-redeem nila sa Treasurer’s office and they will earn points also. Kung maka-earn sila sang points, ienrollsila sa PhilHealth, or ang mga kabataan nila pwede sa mga scholarship programs,” Distura said, explaining the TAMPAD Program.
Distura was recognized nationwide through launching TAMPAD in the municipality of Dumangas.
Incumbent board member Domingo Oso also filed his COC. He is seeking reelection for Board Member of the fourth district.
The NP bets signed an “Integrity Pledge”, as initiated by the Comelec, to state their commitment to abide to the election laws, rules, and regulations for peaceful mid-term polls.
