THE new Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) chief, Sr. Supt. Martin Defensor boasted that not one drug personality arrested in various operations was killed since he assumed office on September 12.
“I am happy with our performance since September 12, six successful buy-bust operations were conducted and walang namatay sa mga suspects,” said Defensor.
Defensor assumed the ICPO helm replacing Sr. Supt. Henry Biñas.
On September 12, an estimated P150,000 worth of suspected shabu was recovered by the ICPO in a anti-narcotics operation at Barangay Lopez Jaena, La Paz, Iloilo City.
Recovered from the four arrested suspects were 12 sachets of suspected shabu weighing 12 grams and P5,000 marked money.
Moreover, four suspected drug peddlers were also arrested in two consecutive buy bust operations of the ICPO on Sept 15 at JM Basa St, Iloilo City.
On Sept 17, a ready-to-wear (RTW) retailer and newly identified drug personality was also arrested in a drug buy-bust operation at Barangay San Isidro, Jaro.
Defensor assured that ICPO would still continue with the intensified anti-illegal drugs operations.
“Since wala gauntat ang violators, kami wala man kami gauntat mas lalo pa namon gina-enhance ang operations against illegal drugs so expect more buy-bust and more saturation drives,” noted Defensor.
The new chief also reiterated that they would always do their job with regularity and in accordance with the law.
““I always believe in the spirit of law and I assure illegal drug cases will go through due process. Walang foul play and puro legitimate police operations ang himuon ko,” he noted.
Recently, top police officials assured the public that the city is “generally peaceful” amid the series of killings perpetrated by motorcycle-riding assassins.
During the dialogue with councilors on Sept 18 at the City Council’s session hall, another top cop also emphasized his stand against illegal drugs.
“We all know that the tranquility of the city partly or greatly can be attributed to the campaign on illegal drugs. If we cannot address the problem on illegal drugs it will be another problem on the peace and order in the years to come,” said Sr. Supt. Henry Biñas, who now heads the Police Regional Office (PRO)-6’s Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division.
