DEFYING doctor’s orders, the Iloilo City Police Station 1 (ICPS1) took out Pakistani-Filipino businessman Hamza Zubair Kayani from confinement at West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Superintendent Jonathan Pablito, ICPS1 chief, signed the documents acknowledging that the WVSUMC management will not be held liable whatever happens to Kayani.
“I took full responsibility of taking him out of WVSUMC, despite that it was against his doctor’s will. We have been receiving persistent reports of attempts to let him escape,” Pablito said.
At around 9:00 a.m. of Aug. 29, 2018, the ICPS1 team arrived at WVSUMC.
Negotiations were done with WVSUMC’s chief of hospital and the head of security.
“Pinapirma nila ako ng mga waivers before we finally left the hospital shortly before 11:00 in the morning,” Pablito said.
Kayani’s mother, who works as WVSUMC’s nurse chief, barred her son from being taken out of hospital confinement.
Under heavy security, Kayani was transferred to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO)-6’s Regional Health Service in Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.
A PNP-RHS service nurse attended to him. He was also given insulin drip because of his “high blood sugar level.”
“We acknowledged that his health should be attended to but we couldn’t risk having him back at WVSUMC,” Pablito said.
As of this writing, the ICPS1 is negotiating to place Kayani under hospital arrest at the Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao, Iloilo City.
Pablito said there is a need to minitor Kayani’s medical bulletin and diet.
Kayani, who was arrested in a police raid for possession of firearms, explosive, and illegal drugs, was never jailed after he complained to be ill.
Over the weekend, his blood pressure is 160/110 while his blood sugar level is at 302 mg/dl.
Pablito said they are implementing tight security measures to ensure that Kayani will not escape, given that he has a record of skirting police custody.
The 28-year old Kayani was arrested following a police raid at his house in Barangay Tanza-Esperanza, City Proper, Iloilo City on Aug. 23.
Recovered during the operation were a caliber .45 pistol (serial number 831472), magazine and 10 ammunition for caliber .45 pistol, two magazine assemblies and 40 live ammunition for caliber 5.56 mm rifle, a wood stick, black tube containing rifle grenade, mobile phone box with 16 sachets of suspected shabu, five sachets with suspected shabu residue, plastic sachets, and assorted shabu paraphernalia.
On Friday, he was charged for violation of RAs 10591, 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002), and 9516 (illegal possession of explosive).
Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, Iloilo City police chief, earlier confirmed that Kayani is on the watch list of illegal drug personalities as a high-value target (HVT) drug personality because of the amount of suspected drugs he could allegedly disposed.
The businessman has been accused of forcing a minor to work him and was tagged in a motel shooting almost three years ago.
