In Western Visayas, 18 of 20 target Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) training courses have been completed for this year, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) here said.
“We’re done with 18, we are left with two,” Melissa Banias, OCD-6 (Western Visayas) chief of the Capability Building Section said on Friday.
The two remaining training courses are contingency planning for Capiz on September 19-21, 2018 and for Mt. Kanlaon next week.
The OCD clients came from the 14 sectors under the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC). They comprised of volunteer groups, persons with disability, farmers, fisher folk, rebel returnees, and Indigenous Peoples (IP), among others. 700 of them were already trained.
The topics included were the Philippine DRRM system and the different kinds of natural and human-induced hazard. The sessions were also comprised of daily DRMM application.
“We generate their commitment, what they can contribute to the society after knowing all these,” Banias said.
OCD continues to extend technical assistance to local government units and private sectors, Banias added.
