TAPAZ, Capiz – The Office of the Municipal Engineer here has started demolishing the old municipal building to give way to a new structure.

Mayor Roberto “Nonong” Palomar said the demolition was started two weeks ago.

Palomar said the old town hall will be replaced by a four-story building that will cost P103 million.

A Manila-based contractor will construct the building which will be finished middle of next year.

The demolition came after the recommendation of the Commission on Audit (COA) engineers who inspected the old two-story building.

The Sangguniang Bayan (SB) had earlier requested the COA to ascertain if the 50-year-old building is due for condemnation and demolition.

Tapaz, a first-class municipality, has a population of 51,313 in 58 barangays, based on the 2015 census.

Meanwhile, several local government offices were transferred to other buildings so as not to affect the daily transactions of the public.
