Starting next week, Jeepney drivers in the province and city of Iloilo can charge higher fares.

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-6) Director Richard Osmeña said the new minimum fare for jeepneys is set to take effect on Aug. 30, 2018.

The LTFRB approved the P2 increase in the minimum jeepney fare last month.

From the current P6.50, regular passengers will have to pay P8.50 for the first five kilometers and P1.50 for every succeeding kilometer while students, seniors, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will pay P7 from P5.

Osmeña said a resolution imposing the increase was published in local newspapers on August 14.

“It will take effect 15 days after its publication,” he explained.

The director said that jeepney drivers and operators are required secure a fare matrix.

“Only those with the official matrix, placed inside their jeepneys, are allowed to implement the fare increase,” Osmeña stressed.

According to him, the matrix costs P610. “It will be available at our office in Jaro district.”
