AF Payments Inc.(AFPI), a company that provides tap-and-go Beep cards in Metro Manila, is keen on expanding its business in Iloilo City.

Peter Maher, president and chief executive officer of AFPI, said they are now in talks with some transport operators in the city for the contactless mode of payment.

Beep cards are reloadable smart cards, which can be bought for P20.

“The cards let passengers skip the hassle of cash payments,” Maher stressed.

The automated fare collection system also “ensures that passengers pay accurate fares for their trips.”

Aside from Iloilo, AFPI is also eyeing to serve passengers in Bukidnon and Cebu.

“We are one of the viable suppliers of fare collection systems. So, we expect that we will be given the chance to pitch to provide services,” Maher said.

Once AFPI sealed deals with the operators, the three areas will be the first to use the Beep cards outside Metro Manila.

The use of Beep cards in the country was introduced by AFPI in 2015.

Last year, the e-wallet firm sold more than five million Beep cards.

“Two out of three Filipinos are now using Beep cards to take their journey,” Maher claimed.

AFPI said its expansion plans are in support of the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program
