Despite its vigorous campaign against illegal drugs, the Police Regional Office (PRO-6) admitted that the drug trade is still alive in Western Visayas.

Citing intelligence reports, PRO-6 spokesperson Superintendent Joem Malong said there are 10 drug groups that are currently operating in the region.

But she refused to disclose the names and locations of the groups.

Ang iban sa ila bag-o kag ang iban naman nag-active lang liwat subong. Nagresume sila sang ila operations,” Malong said.

“We are closely coordinating with the police stations where these groups are monitored,” she added.

According to Malong, the sale of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu in the region is slowly picking up.

“This is primarily because the price of this illegal substance dropped,” she said.

PRO-6 Director Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, in an interview over radio station Bombo Radyo-Iloilo in September, said part of the P6.8 shabu that slipped through the Manila International Container Port (MICP) in August.

“Kasi hindi nauubos. Marami parin kahit wala namang shabu laboratory dito sa region.”
