EVEN before MORE Power and Electric Co. (MORE Power) could present its transition plan and program before the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Nov 26, 2018, hundreds of individuals from opposing forces aired their sentiments.
But one rallyist, a certain Ramon, told Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo, that he went to “protest” in favor of More Power’s rival, Panay Electric Company (PECO), upon the request of their village chief.
Ramon named Punongbayan Barangay Josephine of San Felix village, City Proper district, as the one who ordered them to rally behind PECO.
And as good constituent, Ramon said he went to the designated area.
He claimed he was not paid or had no knowledge if payment was made to other rallyists
Ramon said he was not a victim of PECO’s alleged overbilling and other so-called abuses.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Jonathan Pablito, Iloilo City Police Station 1 commander, said their estimate showed there were 1,500 pro-PECO rallyists and 500 anti-PECO protesters.
There were only around 50 individuals who rallied against both PECO and MORE Power saying they want the government to take over Iloilo City’s power distribution.
There were reports that protesters against MORE Power were paid P300 each.
But Pablito said they are not privy to such report.
What’s important, he said, that they did their mass action peacefully.
