The Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) wants to increase the fine for individuals involved in vandalism.

Jeck Conlu, PSTMO head, said he would ask the City Council to amend the existing ordinance that prohibits graffiti and other forms of vandalism.

His proposal is to raise the fine from P5,000 to P50,000 and 100 hours of community service.

Conlu is also planning to put up “freedom walls” in every plaza.

Dira makapagusto na sila kag every three months, panason naman naton para ang iban maka-express man sang ila nga art,” he said.

On Nov. 17, 2018, PSTMO together with the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) will be launching “Ilonggo Kontra Vandalismo” at SM City in Mandurriao district.

This campaign, according to Conlu, “aims to stop the vulgar vandalism in the metropolis and to keep the youth away from this kind of bad habit.”

“There will be a symposium for students, gang leaders, fraternities, among others. This gathering will let them understand the legal implications about vandalism and also to help them refrain from doing illegal things,” he said.

“Let’s help one another by educating everyone not to make vandals. Let’s make our city beautiful, clean and safe,” Conlu added.
