THE Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), with its aim to highlight the special needs of children with disabilities and their unique skills, hosted for the first time “A Day With Children with Disabilities”.

Students of Special Education (SpEd), officials from the Department of Education (DepEd) and some non-government organization celebrated the event as part of the 26th year of National Children’s Month at Casa Real de Iloilo on Nov 26, 2018.

Dr. Neneth Q. Pador, department head of PSWDO motivated children attendees whom she considers as “the most valuable assets of the nation”.

“You’re braver than you believe, you are stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and you are loved more than you know. Siling sang nike… Just do it! Kaya mo yan!” Pador said.

She also emphasized that the parents of the children with disabilities are also special for their patience and tolerance.

“Acceptance of your child’s condition doesn’t mean resignation. It means understanding that something is what it is and there’s going to be a way through it,” Pador said.

“Children with special needs aren’t sent to special parents, they make you… parents special,” she added.

Some SpEd learners showcased their talents through poster making contests and dance presentations.

Pador said that children with disabilities receive support from the province through scholarship, financial assistance, and livelihood training for their parents, among others.

Day care pupils and workers will gather tomorrow for the annual Children’s Congress which will also be hosted by the PSWDO.
