The 554-meter road leading to Caticlan Jetty Port in Malay, Aklan is now “ready” to handle the influx of tourists going to Boracay Island.
Engineer L. Fuentebella of the Aklan District Engineering Office (DEO) said the contractor was able to complete the P8.5-million road repair project ahead of the reopening of the world-famous island on Friday, October 26.
Boracay was closed to tourists on April 26 to pave the way for its six-month rehabilitation.
Fuentebella is expecting the improved road going to the port, which serves as the gateway to Boracay, to “help minimize traffic congestion, and provide a more comfortable and stress-free travel to the island.”
The project involves “asphalt overlaying along the national road including road shoulder, repair of drainage systems, de-clogging of pipe culverts, installation of Reinforced Concrete (RC) pipes, construction of box culverts, and installation of metal frames and gratings.” The application of thermoplastic pavement marking was also undertaken by the DEO maintenance personnel.
Meanwhile, Fuentebella said the widening of the Boracay Circumferential Road is still ongoing.
According to him, the construction of the missing gap was already done.
“We are currently undertaking the widening of the whole circumferential road, which is expected to be completed next year,” Fuentebella said.
