A BARANGAY tanod (village watchman) was found dead in a grassy lot at Barangay Bagacay East, Maasin, Iloilo.
The body of Emilio Macaya, 54, also a resident of Bagacay East village, bore a hack injury on the neck.
Another resident, Zacarias Barcoma, found the body around 6 a.m. on Aug. 5, 2018.
Inspector Jose Oswald Gatuslao, said they have two persons of interest behind the grisly slaying.
The two were workers of an apartment, which is undergoing construction, located a few meters from the area where Macaya’s body was found.
The two are considered persons of interests after investigators found their blood-stained clothes.
They were missing from the construction site when police conducted the operation.
Gatuslao and his team went to Calinog, Iloilo to get the statement of one of the persons of interest.
The other one is a resident of Barangay Layog, Maasin.
The night before the incident, witnesses claimed that Macaya was seen drinking at Ag Bert Store and Carwash.
He later transferred to a nearby store and had another bottle of beer.
It is believed that the victim was on his way home when a group of construction workers invited him to more drinks.
Despite the proximity of the construction site and the area where Macaya’s body was found, Gatuslao said workers denied witnessing any incident or heard cries for help from the victim.
“At first, they were tight-lipped about anything,” he added.
Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the possible motive behind Macaya’s death.
