BORACAY – Tourists is safe when this famed island destination reopens come Oct. 26, according to Metro Boracay Police Task Force (MBPTF) head Senior Superintendent Jesus Cambay Jr.

Cambay said tourists – domestic and foreign – must not worry about their security in what is now the “new Boracay.”

The island resort has accommodated over 2 million tourists last year and early this year before President Rodrigo Duterte ordered it closed for its six-month rehabilitation beginning April 26.

“Come to Boracay. You are safe there. The citizens and stakeholders in the island work hand-in-hand to prevent crimes, terrorism and environmental degradation,” Cambay, who is also Police Regional Office 6’s deputy director for operations, said on Monday during the National Crime Prevention Week celebration in Kalibo, Aklan.

The MBPTF has set up police community assistance centers in barangays Yapak, Manoc-manoc and Balabag and deployed its personnel in the outer and inner control borders of Boracay to strengthen security measures.

The MBPTF aims to be a “highly capable, tourist-oriented and world-class police task force responsive to current and emerging security challenges” in the island.

Meanwhile, the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force scheduled a tourism operations dry-run for Boracay from Oct. 15 to 25.

Local tourists will be allowed to enter the island resort during the dry-run for assessment purposes.

The Tourism department has already released a list of 25 certified compliant hotels and resorts to operate during the island reopening.
