ILOILO Vice Governor Christine “Tingting” Garin recently led the successful turnover of more than 3,000 books to seven (7) national high schools (NHS) in the 2nd and 3rd Districts of Iloilo.
The book distribution is under the auspices of AAMBIS-OWA Party-list’s One Child, One Book program, a continuing advocacy project in response to the widespread lack of school resources, especially in the poor areas in Visayas. The project aims to provide public schools in far-flung areas with supplementary reading and reference materials on various subjects published abroad.
AAMBIS-OWA Representative and Deputy Speaker Sharon Garin, along with Vice Governor Tingting Garin, is at the helm of identifying the school beneficiaries, the logistics, sorting, and allocation of books. As of 2018, AAMBIS-OWA has reached 358,195 students in various public schools in the provinces of Iloilo,
For the first wave, a total of 3,457 books were turned over to Leganes National High School (800 books), Nabitasan National High School (275 books), Lapayon National High School (248 books), Tina National High School (345 books), Badiangan National High School (500 books), Binaba-an National High School (489 books), and Lambunao National High School (800 books).
Vice Governor Garin, reportedly the First Nominee of the AAMBIS-OWA Party-list in the 2019 polls, encouraged the recipients to use the books well.
“Ang libro nga ini amo ang magabulig para malab-ot ninyo ang inyo mga handum. Kada pahina sang sining libro maka bulig gid sa inyo pagtu-on,” Vice Governor Garin said.
