ROXAS CITY, Capiz – A member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod here urged the management of Metro Roxas Water District (MRWD) to spare consumers from paying their bills until it has improved its services.
SP member Trina Marie Ignacio said some areas of the city have low or zero water supply.
“Sparing them from payments of water bills would lessen their burdens in life,” Ignacio said.
She lamented that consumers are made to pay the minimum charge of P287 despite MRWD’s poor services.
Lawyer Dante Arcangeles, MRWD officer-in-charge, said the board of directors is not in favor of Ignacio’s proposal.
He said he already presented the proposal in a board meeting last Monday but the directors dismissed it.
Arcangeles said many consumers would complain of unfair payment treatment if they exempt consumers in areas with low or zero supply from paying the minimum charge.
He added that it would also affect the financial position of MRWD because of low collection.
Eight barangays here have been suffering from low water pressure in the past days – Culasi, Baybay, Talon, Dinginan, Milibili, Tiza, Dayao, and Tanque.
At present, Arcangeles said two 75-horsepower vertical pumps at Brgy. Bahit Panitan and two 300-horsepower pumps in Paslang, Brgy. Salocon in Panitan town are being installed to improve MRWD’s supply.
