The Department of Tourism (DOT-6) has intensified its promotional efforts to push Western Visayas as a worthwhile destination for Chinese travelers.

Lawyer Helen J. Catalbas, DOT-6 director, said their goal is to sustain the high number of Chinese tourists in the region.

According to her, the country set a target of P1.5 million Chinese tourist arrivals next year.

Of the expected number of Chinese tourists in 2019, Catalbas said she is positive that the region would contribute about 300,000.

She said the region has a lot of stunning natural attractions, sumptuous dishes, luxurious hotels and shopping malls that would entice more Chinese tourists.

WV is preparing for the influx of Chinese tourists by conducting Chinese Mandarin language trainings for tour guides and other front liners.

Catalbas said direct flights between China and Western Visayas are now being negotiated.

Last year, WV welcomed 386,021 Chinese tourists.
